On Wednesday morning (16 September) our group made its way from The Bluffs in Vung Tau to HCMC for a late afternoon flight to Phu Quoc. With 5-hours to spare in the HCMC, we made arrangements to visit Tan Son Nhat Golf Course, located less than a kilometer from the airport.
Tan Son Nhat GC is the newest course in Vietnam, and surprisingly one of the busiest in such a short period. Opened earlier this year (2015), the international standard course brings in both local golfers as well as expat businessmen and tourists.
Upon entering the property, we were surprised at the significant size and ornateness of the clubhouse. With a 4-star rating, the Him Lam Palace serves multiple purposes as the clubhouse, wedding and banquet facility, and a conference center.
The course covers over 132ha, including 111ha for the 36-hole golf course, 14.7ha lake, 3ha for the Him Lam Palace clubhouse, and a 2.6ha golf driving range. Projections for the coming years include space for hotels, restaurants, villas, apartments and a school. All these facilities are located within the 820ha Tan Son Nhat Airport area which is managed by the Defence Ministry.
After lunch at the Him Lam Palace, we were able to play 12 holes before departing for the airport. The course was well-maintained and provided a good challenge for an afternoon round of golf. The quality of play, and the condition of the course was better than many

With it’s location near the airport, and to the greater HCMC metropolitan area, I can see many golfers would regularly play Tan Son Nhat simply out of convenience. The clubhouse and golf course offers a very good location to conduct business meeting on and off the course.
