Long Thanh Golf Club & Residential Estate - A scenic golfing venue near Saigon

Opened in 2001, the 36-hole golf course at Long Thanh Golf Club is a fair challenge to golfers of all abilities.  Each hole has its own character, providing challenges throughout the round.   World-renowned golf course architects’ Golfplan designed the two courses (Hill & Lake) which are set in the scenic countryside a short distance (25km) from HCMC.  The drive from our hotel in District 1 was around 35 minutes.

Covering more than 350 hectares in Dong Nai Province, Vietnam, the club also provides a driving range, golf shop, restaurant, conference rooms, lockers and luxurious villas.

Upon arrival, we were greeted by club directors and management, who gave us a tour of the spacious clubhouse facilities.   After breakfast together, we made our way out to our golf carts and caddies.  My caddy, as with most of the caddies at Long Thanh, has been working for the club for more than 5 years.  Both male and female caddies are available.

We were fortunate to play a bit of both courses, and have an opportunity to view the full layout.  Each of the 18-hole courses features rolling fairways and subtly undulating greens, winding through a palm plantation with artificial lakes, waterfalls and other beautiful features.

Built on a plateau, the Hill Course, is the more challenging course of the two.  The signature hole on the Hill course is the unforgettable number 13.  A par-3, it features two greens, either one requiring an accurate tee shot.  The longer green has an out-of-bounds at the back of the green, while the shorter green is surrounded by the 'Great Wall of Long Thanh'.

The 18-hole Lake Course is surrounded by branches of Dong Nai River, and offers cool breezes throughout the round. A water hazard can be found on almost every hole where golfers are likely to lose an occasional ball from errant shots.  The Lake Course is set up with international standard lights for night golfing.

On returning to the clubhouse, we returned to Long Thanh’s elaborate clubhouse, where the locker room is considered by some to be one of the best in southern Vietnam.  We then proceeded to the dining room for an extensive lunch with the club’s management team.  Staff throughout the clubhouse were well trained and courteous throughout our visit.

The overall experience at Long Thanh Golf Club was an impressive and unforgettable.  I’d recommend a visit to both local and international golfers.
